I'm inclined to think I noticed problem #2 first. And anyone who describes the paper delivery as lugubrious clearly missed the Bowers, Lerer, and Justice session last year. Okay: it was an exception.

You were fortunate to escape with your life. I hope your assistants take heed of any warnings you may deign to give them, such as giving the tequila a wide berth.

Based on the presence of SCA I am guessing 1991 or 1992 - the question is whether they were just out there in costume with swords or if it was the year someone in their group decided to make a 4 ft tall "catapult".

The area around the gazebo/pond area can be checked out by any student group on campus at any time - sometimes unwisely, alas.

My husband gave a paper at Kalamazoo last year. He said he went to bed early every night and "got great sleep". Now I see why.

The Korncrake's comments are spot on. I've never ventured into the bowels of Kalamazoo for the dance but the good doktor has confirmed my suspicions of the lack of super-fantastic-ness there. And what about the academics' shoes?
